XTREME MJ survives Hurricane Irma! Read one customer's experience (September 2017):
"We've owned a Bad Boy (Xtreme) MJ for about 3 years now, and it has been a highly valuable device on board. We've got it installed at the top of the mast, riveted in on the provided L bracket. We are located in St Maarten where we recently took a huge Category 5 direct hit with over 200MPH/360KPH winds. I'm happy to report the Bad Boy, with antenna, is still mounted at the top of the mast. Suffice to say, your product is pretty robust. Thanks again!" - Derek, s/y ARAVILLA

Product Description

Xtreme MJ (Metal Jacket) Housing Offering 100+ Mbits*!

The Xtreme MJ (Metal Jacket) is the bare bones version of Bitstorm's BAD BOY Xtreme complete system. Xtreme MJ gets you connected to hotspots with speed over 100 megabits/sec (Mbits)*. While it's fully waterproof (submersible - IP67), its biggest benefit is the metal casing protecting the electronics inside during periods of electrical storm activity. It's a faraday shield blocking both external static and non-static electrical fields.

Xtreme pulls in and locks onto the weakest signals. How do we do this? By putting the highest power Wi-Fi device available right at and connected directly to the antenna, the antenna cable is eliminated. What this means is that all of the available power (36dBm or 4W EIRP) goes out the antenna for maximum range and reception. And the data goes to your computer via a digital (not analog) computer grade cable. And since it's digital, you can locate your Wi-Fi device in the best location up to 300 feet (90 meters) away. No more compromises.

The biggest problem is often the line of sight that's needed for Wi-Fi. Surroundings that have water, wood and metal all conspire to reduce range. Then there's the miniscule 35-50mW signal that laptops put out - you can see the hotspot access point but it can't hear you. Unlike laptops and other mobile devices, this Bad Boy puts out up to 4W (36dBm) EIRP of power.

Compatible with Windows, Mac, Linux - any operating system. Rugged, completely weatherproof and continues operating in extreme temperatures. Select Wi-Fi Access Points through your browser so there's no software to install. 1-14 adapter is included as part of the housing (requires an existing 1-14 mount which is not included). Optional rail, flat surfacebackstay or pole mounting available.

This version allowing you to add the antenna and wiring yourself. Suited for the more technically inclined and who desire to put together a kit themselves.

* Refers to the wireless link speed. The actual speed of the internet connection may be considerably less. While wireless data rates up to 150 Mbits are possible, most hotspots provide a connection to the internet of only a few Mbits.

Note: Xtreme MJ is backward compatible with original Xtreme and Xtreme N and is interchangeable.

  1. Really like the product, had an issue that was taken care of.

Posted by Christopher Tucker on 2nd May 2017

I have had a couple of these now and really liked both. We had an issue with our most recent one and the factory sent us a replacement as per our extended warranty agreement. It was handled well and I have no complaints about that. I would simply comment that the GUI used to mng the device is pretty antiquated and looks like it could use a good overhall...just my $.02. It's certainly functional and does what the user needs it to.
Bitstorm added: Thank you for your feedback. The GUI is intended to be simple and automatically manage the myriad of settings thus only requiring the user to select a hotspot.

  2. The very well built Extreme MJ 's weak pioint is its connections

Posted by Herbert Everstijn on 16th Jun 2015

The super quality of the MJ has to be seen to be believe, regarding strength, fit and finish.
However precautions need to be taken to prevent the cable connector from becoming disconnected.
Bitstorm recommnts the use of cable ties and I also pack a piece of semi hard plastic foam to fill up the cavity.
I fell on the deck due to a passing powerboat with the Xtreme in my hand and the antenna broke off so carefull handling is necessary. My WiFi works immediately and reliably in my marina with 110V power. We just put the MJ 45 ft up the back stay and are rewiring for 12V to have WiFi hopefully 10 mls from the coast.
The Bitstorm tech service is among the best in the world ! They WILL get you going.
